چکیده

Bandpass sampling holds much promise for the realisation of software radio receivers, particularly for mobile devices. Sampling at reduced rates eases many of the ADC requirements, and decreases power consumption, thus increasing battery lifetime, and overall receiver size. The need for very high performance programmable devices is also reduced. This paper demonstrates the importance of the bandpass filter at the front-end of bandpass sampling receivers, and investigates the bandpass filter requirements for QPSK, and π/4-DQPSK modulation schemes. Also considered is a practical software radio receiver where channel selection occurs at baseband.

The Effect of Oversampling on Aperture Jitter in Bandpass Sampling Receivers

Bandpass sampling allows for the digitisation of bandpass signals at RF or intermediate frequencies. This is desirable for reconfigurable radio systems, where, as many radio functions as possible should be defined in software to create a flexible transceiver. However, the effects of aperture jitter limit sampling at high carrier frequencies. This paper investigates the effects of jitter in band...

CMOS RF Notch Filter for GNSS Receivers

Bandpass sampling architectures, also called subsampling architectures, exhibit several advantages over super-het architectures. First, the complexity of subsampling architectures is significantly lower since no Phased-Locked-Loop (PLL) is required. A direct consequence is that downconversion from RF to IF can be achieved with significant power savings as compared to the super-het architecture....

Comparison of Downconversion Techniques for Software Radio

Software radio is an enabling technology for future radio transceivers, allowing the realisation of multimode, multiband, and reconfigurable base stations and terminals. This paper describes work comparing two suitable methods of downconverting RF signals to baseband, which may be used in software radios. These are direct conversion and bandpass sampling. The performance of each method is evalu...

The blocker challenge when implementing software defined radio receiver RF frontends

Key blocker requirements of software defined radio receivers are identified from first principles. Three challenges are derived from these requirements, the need for passive filter banks or tunable passive filters, a very highly linear RF front-end and a high performance analog-todigital converter. Each of these challenges is analyzed regarding possible solutions in the context of state-of-the ...

The Design of a 3-V 900-MHz CMOS Bandpass Amplifier

A new bandpass amplifier which performs both functions of low-noise amplifier (LNA) and bandpass filter (BPF) is proposed for the application of 900-MHz RF front-end in wireless receivers. In the proposed amplifier, the positive-feedback Q-enhancement technique is used to overcome the low-gain lowQ characteristics of the CMOS tuned amplifier. The Millercapacitance tuning scheme is used to compe...
